Helpful Information about Your Initial Appointment.

FIRST APPOINTMENT

First Appt

Whether you are new to therapy or have received counseling in the past, LifeCare recognizes that a first therapy appointment can be a bit anxiety provoking of not knowing what to expect, wondering if it will be a good fit and other normal questions that accompany that first visit.  First and foremost, please know you can come just as you are to a safe, welcoming and supportive environment to begin that very important journey of hope, health and healing.  Second, acknowledging that it is a big step, but also encouraging clients that each step of that journey is closer to the life that you are seeking and while, the initial 1-3 sessions are typically the getting to know you phase; it is also from the very first appointment, intentional focus on you and your therapy needs and goals.

NEW CLIENT PAPERWORK

At the time of scheduling your first appointment with LifeCare, new clients receive an invitation link to the LifeCare Client Portal to complete the New Client Paperwork.  This information is completed on a secure, HIPAA-compliant, encrypted EHR (electronic health record) site.  This will also be where clients are able to send secure messages (when needed) to their clinician and/or update information as needed throughout their therapeutic journey with LifeCare.  We ask that New Client Paperwork be completed prior to coming for your first appointment so that your therapist has time to review the paperwork.  This also allows for best use of that time with your therapist to discuss your therapy goals and needs.

INTAKE/DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION

DA

Your initial session is also what is called a Client Intake/Diagnostic Evaluation.  The intake session involves review of new client paperwork, answering any client questions related to the counseling process as well as highlighting important LifeCare Practice Policies & Guidelines so that new clients can feel fully informed, particularly for those that are entering therapy for the very first time.

The Diagnostic Assessment/Evaluation helps to accurately assess current symptoms and/or history of particular mental health condition(s) such as anxiety/depression, etc., as well as other factors that can impact a person's overall functioning and well-being.  This helps provide a framework and clinically informs the clinician as to an appropriate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.

Therapy needs and goals are discussed and begins the collaborative journey toward hope, health and healing and living your best life.
